Sailing World Cup - Weymouth

15 June 2015

The event started with some pretty wacky racing under the cliffs in Weymouth Bay. With the wind coming off the cliffs it was hard to see where the gusts were coming from, but no major disasters....

Day two was eventful to say the least!  One of the rudder fittings on the hull snapped so we had to sail with only one rudder for two races - it was OK on port (when the starboard hull was in the water,) but a bit dodgy on starboard!  Overall, we were delighted to get two decent scores from these races, rather than letters (eg DNC).  It's knocked us back a bit, but we're still fighting....

Day three - a drfit aorund the race area waiting for wind, but eventually no racing - still feeling cheerful.

Day four and finally a day of good sailing and we're back up into the medal race positions with scores of 2, 2, 4, 13.

Day five was medal race day and we finished 8th overall, which wasn't bad considering the earlier gear failures.   The GBR team for the Test Event was announced at the end of the day and we were so dissappointed not to be selected for the Nacra 17 slot, despite having the best results overall in the selection events - not much of a birthday celebration, but a day we'll remember for a long time - don't get mad, get better and make the selectors job easy!
